The opposition in Tunisia continues to protest against President Kays Saied. Upon the call of the General Labour Union, thousands gathered in El Kasbah Square in the capital, Tunis, and protested the current political situation, the worsening economy, and unemployment. Demonstrators, who were also concerned about the arrests of activists and journalists and the restrictions imposed on the opposition, demanded reforms be made.
Said dismissed the then prime minister in 2021 on the grounds that “the country was in danger,” weakened the powers of the parliament, and expanded his powers with a decree, possessing the executive power.
