Immigrants attempting to reach the islands on the Aegean Sea coast are being pushed back to Turkish shores by Greece. In just one month, Turkish coast guard teams rescued 929 refugees. After being held by security units on the islands, irregular migrants who land after crossing Greece’s territorial waters are not placed in the camps that are requested by the EU. Greece dismantle engines and empty gasoline tanks of rubber boats, and push them back into Turkish territorial waters that are packed with refugees. Turkish Coast Guard teams are on alert 24 hours a day in response to the frequent pushbacks of irregular migrants by Greek security.
