Turkish-Americans Protest NY Mayor

Members of the Turkish-American community held a peaceful demonstration in Times Square, New York City, to protest recent social media statements by Mayor Zohran Mamdani. Community leaders strongly condemned the mayor for accusing Turkey and Azerbaijan of an alleged Armenian genocide, arguing that such complex historical issues should be left to historians. To counter this political narrative, digital advertising vans circled the area displaying historical facts and honoring Turkish diplomats assassinated by the ASALA terrorist organization in the 1970s and 1980s. Representatives from major Turkish-American civil society groups expressed deep disappointment over the remarks and emphasized the need for solidarity. In response to the statements, organizers urged the diaspora to raise their voices and engage more actively in local politics to prevent similar misrepresentations in the future.
