The Turkish Ministry of National Defense has launched the Space Command within the Air Forces Command of the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF), extending its capabilities beyond surveillance and reconnaissance to encompass various military applications. The initiative, aimed at aligning with NATO-supervised space activities and coordinating with Türkiye’s civil space authorities, is currently undergoing proposal evaluation.
Air and Space Force Development Center Commander Colonel Gökhan Gürakar anticipates activities to commence within a year, urging young individuals to participate. The Space Command, set to evolve from regiment to brigade and division levels, addresses the changing importance of space in military operations, including advancements in early warning systems and space-based technologies.
