The graves of Turkish aviation pioneers Pilot Captain Fethi, First Lieutenant Sadık, and First Lieutenant Nuri, who lost their lives in 1914 during a historic flight from Istanbul to Cairo, continue to attract visitors in Damascus, Syria.
Buried near the Tomb of Saladin behind the Umayyad Mosque, the martyrs’ resting place has seen increased visits since the end of the civil war in 2011. Visitors, like Ali Bakranlı, come to pray and honor Türkiye’s first aviation martyrs.
