Turkish Border Guards Mark Eid on Iraq Frontier

Turkish soldiers stationed at the Duye Living Area along the Iraqi border celebrated Eid al-Adha this week while remaining on high alert. Located in the Derecik district, the outpost was established in late 2025 to secure a critical two-kilometer stretch of a newly built modular concrete border wall. While miles away from their families, the troops marked the holiday by exchanging traditional greetings with their commanders and peers. Lieutenant Gökhan Korkmaz noted that the heavily fortified base plays a vital role in intercepting smugglers and neutralizing militant threats in the region. Despite the festive occasion, the unit continued its round-the-clock surveillance operations to maintain strict border security.
