Turkish Collector of 98-Year-Old Preserves Historical Artifacts

In Sakarya’s Hendek district in Türkiye, 98-year-old Rüştü Çürüksulu has transformed his lifelong passion for collecting into a private museum-like display in his home. Since beginning his hobby in 1950, Çürüksulu has amassed 108 historical artifacts, including weapons and swords, some dating back 300 years.

The artifacts, registered with the Sakarya Museum, are secured in a dedicated room monitored by 24-hour cameras. Çürüksulu, who hopes to establish a public museum, stated, “If given a suitable place, I would build a foundation to showcase these treasures.”

His collection, enriched by community donations and family heirlooms, is compared to Türkiye’s renowned Topkapı Museum. The family plans to preserve and pass down the collection, ensuring its historical significance endures.
