turkish copper carver resists technology since his childhood

Hasan Özkan, one of the few copper masters in Mardin, Turkey, has been pursuing his profession of copper carving with his own hands since he was 10 years old, resisting technology and factories. Devoting almost his entire 65-year life to the art of copper carving, Özkan still manages to draw the attention of local and foreign tourists with the works he produces by patiently drawing decorative patterns on the coppers and engraving them with large nails.

“I have been doing this profession since I was little. Factories have been working with machines since their inception, but handcraft enthusiasts buy these from us,” said Özkan.
