Turkish Language Added to Romanian Schools

The Yunus Emre Institute’s “My Choice is Turkish Project” has expanded in Romania for the 2025-2026 school year, making Turkish a compulsory elective course in public schools. Türkiye’s Ambassador to Bucharest, Özgür Kıvanç Altan, gave the first Turkish lesson at Secondary School No. 80, highlighting strong cultural ties between the two countries.

The program combines language learning with cultural activities such as theater, Karagöz-Hacivat shows, Turkish cuisine workshops, and festivals. A Sister School Project also connects Romanian and Turkish schools through exchange visits.

Launched in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2011 and introduced to Romania in 2024, the project now spans 25 schools with around 1,500 students, aiming to build cultural bridges between Türkiye and Romania.
