Musa Çetin, a 29-year-old from Türkiye, died in custody in New York after being found unconscious in his cell. Prosecutors said footage shows him using his jacket to hang himself, though his family and friends reject the suicide claim, calling his detention “unjust.”
Çetin’s lawyer, Gloria C. Keum, reviewed the footage with NYPD and city officials, confirming police intervention came only after several minutes. Friends insist he was “full of life” and preparing for the future, pointing to possible system errors and negligence in custody.
After an autopsy in the US, Çetin’s body will be sent to Istanbul before burial in his hometown of Ağrı.
