Bursa and Ankara mountaineers have achieved a historic feat in the 2024 Mount Ararat winter climbing event organized by the Turkish Mountaineering Federation (TDF). Out of the 30-member team, only two climbers managed an unprecedented ascent from 4,200 meters to the summit at 5,137 meters, a feat never before attempted by the TDF. The challenging journey, including a 3,000-meter ascent in a single day, was captured on camera, showcasing moments when the climbers melted snow for water during the summit hike.
The expedition, which began in the Doğubayazıt district of Ağrı, involved 30 mountaineers, including 10 women, led by Coach Şahap Eryılmaz. The initial plan was to spend the night at the camping area at 3,000 meters and reach the 5,137-meter summit the next day. However, after reaching 4,200 meters by 10:00 in the morning, the technical team decided to return due to late winter conditions, prioritizing safety.
