Turkish Team Wins Robot-Sumo Competition in Tokyo

Türkiye’s Sumozade Robotics team claimed the world title in the autonomous sumo robot competition held in Tokyo, defeating Japan 2-1 in the finals. Competing with their robot “Senju,” Sumozade outperformed 293 teams from 15 countries to secure the championship.

Team captain Emre Tarhana described the win as “a reward for labor and determination,” emphasizing the pride of representing Türkiye internationally. He noted that all elements of the robot, including circuit boards and mechanical components, were self-produced.

The competition, established in the 1980s, is a prestigious event that challenges participants in engineering, AI, and strategy. Sumozade earned their place by winning Europe’s largest robotics event in November.
