Turkish Woman Defies Gender Norms as a Successful Truck Driver

Leyla Elaldı, a 35-year-old truck driver based in Izmir, challenges traditional gender roles in the male-dominated profession. With over 40 years of experience, she learned the trade from her father, Neşat Elaldı, whom she refers to as her mentor. Breaking away from her previous career in textiles due to pandemic-related challenges, Leyla embraced truck driving, demonstrating resilience and determination. She obtained her driver’s license, defying stereotypes, and now serves as an inspiring example for women in unconventional career paths.
