Aysun Dalmış, a 67-year-old mother from Mersin, Türkiye, has realized her lifelong dream of studying archaeology after a childhood fascination sparked by local excavations and a book she read. Despite financial challenges that prevented her from continuing her education after high school, Dalmış became a nurse, raised three children, and eventually retired. Driven by her early inspiration, archaeologist Halet Çambel, Dalmış dedicated herself to pursuing her dream after retirement. On her second attempt, she was accepted into the Archaeology department at Osmaniye Korkut Ata University.
Dalmış now plans to participate in archaeological excavations, saying, “If I complete this program, I will have fulfilled my biggest dream.” Encouraged by her family and friends, she hopes to remain active in the field as long as her health permits, proudly achieving her childhood ambition.
