Turkish Woman Saves Premature Calf, Now a Household Mascot

Ankara farmer Şükran Sarıbıyık is nurturing a premature calf at home after a vet said it had little chance of survival. Born at 8 months, the calf, now a week old, has become a beloved mascot in Sarıbıyık’s household in the Elmadağ district.

Sarıbıyık explained, “The vet told us, ‘It will die, there’s nothing we can do.’ But I decided to care for it myself.” Since bringing the calf inside, drying it by the stove, and feeding it milk, the calf has gained strength, now walking around the house and thriving against the odds.
