A significant natural gas reserve has been discovered in the Thrace Basin, located in the northwest region of Türkiye, specifically in Tekirdağ and Silivri. This reserve, estimated to be 300 million cubic meters in size and valued at approximately 3 billion TL (about $144 million USD), was uncovered during exploration studies.
The Thrace Basin Natural Gas Company (TBNG), with support from the Presidential Investment Office, made this discovery as part of its 2024 New Drilling Program. The natural gas will start being distributed to industrial facilities within two weeks.
TBNG currently extracts 250,000 cubic meters of natural gas daily from 85 wells in the region and aims to increase daily production by 50% with this new find.
TBNG CEO Sinan Furat stated, “We have begun burning gas in the fields we discovered in Tekirdağ and are now in the production phase. This local and national natural gas, extracted from 2,800 meters underground, will start being delivered to industrial facilities this week.”
