Türkiye earthquake is the biggest disaster seen in europe in last century, says WHO

Hans Kluge, the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director for Europe, said that the earthquake that occurred in Türkiye, which killed tens of thousands and injured more than 100,000 in Türkiye and Syria, has been the biggest natural disaster that Europe has seen in the last 100 years. Noting that it will take time to heal the wounds of the earthquake, Kluge said that WHO will stand by the two countries.

According to Kluge, as part of the biggest emergency campaign throughout the 75 years of history of the organization, 12 emergency medical teams have been sent to Turkey for now. Furthermore, they have started a 43-million-dollar aid campaign.

Reminding that Turkey opened its doors to Syrian refugees fleeing the civil war, Kluge said that it is time for the international community to show the same generosity that Turkey has shown for years.
