Türkiye Earthquake Survivor Wishes for Bionic Arm in New Year

Halime Nuray Bağrıaçık, a mother from Hatay, Türkiye, who survived the devastating Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquake, lost two of her daughters in the disaster and now fights for a new life with her 8-year-old daughter, Irem. Rescued 16 hours after the quake, Bağrıaçık lost her left arm, while Irem, pulled from the rubble on the fifth day, had her left leg amputated.

Now living in a container home, Bağrıaçık expressed her heartfelt wish for a bionic arm to comb her daughter’s hair and meet daily needs. “My only hope for the new year is to regain some independence and care for my daughter,” she said.

Neighbors in the container city are rallying to support her cause. Mehmet Tahir Kayaalp, a neighbor, appealed for assistance, stating, “Our only wish is for Halime to have a bionic arm as soon as possible. May God bless everyone helping her.”

Over 25,000 people died in Hatay during the earthquake, with thousands left disabled, beginning new struggles for survival.
