With between 1.15 and 1.17 kg of trash generated daily by each person, Türkiye’s Istanbul ranks as the sixth city to generate the most garbage in the world, according to the Statistical Office of the European Communities (Eurostat). A total of 9.3 million tons of garbage, including domestic, industrial, and medical waste, is recorded to have been generated by the city each year.
Eurostat also revealed that the country leads Europe in plastic garbage exports, with 28 percent.
