Türkiye’s P-72 Patrol Aircraft Safeguard Blue Homeland

Türkiye’s Naval Forces are strengthening maritime security with the P-72 Maritime Patrol Aircraft, which provide aerial protection for drilling ships, detect enemy submarines, and support search and rescue missions. Operating from Cengiz Topel Naval Air Base in Kocaeli, the fleet plays a crucial role in defending Türkiye’s rights and interests in the Blue Homeland.

Equipped with advanced radar, sonar, and communication systems developed by Turkish defense companies TAI, ASELSAN, HAVELSAN, and Milsoft, the P-72s can track hundreds of surface targets and identify submarines from kilometers away. They also provide cover for national drilling vessels such as Fatih, Yavuz, and Kanuni, deterring threats and boosting security for Türkiye’s energy efforts.

Naval Pilot Maj. Abbas Ersen Kanat emphasized that their mission is to protect Türkiye’s maritime interests, monitor illegal activity, and respond to emergencies. “What motivates us most is the trust and love of our nation,” Kanat said, noting the pride of representing Türkiye during international missions.
