Tusk Government Wins Confidence Vote in Poland

Poland’s coalition government led by Prime Minister Donald Tusk secured a vote of confidence in parliament following the recent presidential election. Of 453 MPs present, 243 voted in favor and 210 against.

Tusk faces challenges ahead after opposition candidate Karol Nawrocki, backed by devout Catholics and ultranationalists, narrowly defeated the government’s candidate, Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski, in the June 1 runoff. Nawrocki’s win is expected to complicate Tusk’s pro-European agenda. President Andrzej Duda will step down on August 6.
