Al-Shabaab organized a twin suicide attack to the Lama-Galaay Military Base, that also functions as government headquarters in Beledweyne in Somali’s Hiran region. At least 12, including Hirshabelle State’s Minister of Health and the Deputy Governor of Hiran, were killed during the blast.
“The first explosion occurred at the entrance gate, and after a few minutes a big truck rushed toward the headquarters building and exploded, killing many civilians who came to the office to receive services,” Hiran Governor Ali Jayte Osman said. “This attack was carried out by cowards, but their brutal acts will never distract from the public uprising against them.” he added.
Witnesses stated that the headquarters was attacked at around 10:00 local time with a truck loaded with explosives.
