The Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai, Thailand, was flooded after heavy rainfall. The elephants in the park were trapped in water up to their stomachs. Two of the 100 elephants, most of whom were blind or sick, died.
“It was the biggest evacuation we have ever carried out to save their lives; the water rose so fast,” said park founder Saengduean Lek Chailert, noting that the flood was the worst to have occurred at the park.
The park, which is home to about 5,000 animals, was evacuated in recent days after authorities issued a warning.
