Typhoon Kong-rey Hits Taiwan, One Dead, Dozens Injured

Typhoon Kong-rey, the strongest typhoon to hit Taiwan in 30 years, made landfall with winds reaching 200 km/h, causing widespread disruption and casualties. A 56-year-old woman was killed by a falling tree in Nantou, and at least 73 people were injured across the island, as reported by Taiwan’s Central Emergency Operations Center. Over 8,600 residents were evacuated, and 34,000 soldiers are on standby. The storm forced the cancellation of over 500 flights and halted trading on the Taiwan Stock Exchange, while education and some public transit services remain suspended.
