The death toll from last Friday’s landslide at the Kiteezi landfill in Kampala, Uganda’s capital, has risen to 21, according to police reports. Search and rescue teams have managed to save 14 people from the site. Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has directed Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja to oversee the evacuation of residents living near the landfill. The government has launched an investigation into the incident and plans to take action against any officials found negligent.
