Ukraine International Airlines (UAI) has filed a lawsuit against Iran for the downing of the passenger plane that flew from Tehran to Kyiv on January 8, 2020, in Tehran, Iran’s capital. According to UAI, the case was filed in a court in Ontario, Canada. Iran and the Revolutionary Guards are named as defendants in the case, and compensation is sought from Iran.

Iran confirmed that a missile struck the Boeing 737 passenger plane of Ukraine Airlines, which took off from Tehran at 06:12 local time. 176 people were killed in the incident, including 9 Ukrainian crew members and 167 Ukrainian, Iranian, Canadian, Swedish, Afghan, German, and British passengers.
