Ukraine has unleashed a sweeping new naval drone operation against Russian maritime assets across the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. Marking Ukraine’s State Day late last night, the targeted strikes hit 17 Russian oil tankers, two gas tankers, and a tugboat. Confirming the large-scale assault, Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces Commander Robert Brovdi announced that “20 enemy ships were hunted down in the Black Sea.” This bold operation follows an intense week-long campaign earlier in July that struck 11 Russian vessels and a staggering 116 “shadow fleet” ships in the neighboring Sea of Azov.
