Ukrainian man attempts suicide in Istanbul, calling for an end to the war

A Ukrainian man, alleged to be a former police officer, climbed over an underpass in the Taksim district of Türkiye’s Istanbul and attempted to commit suicide while chanting slogans such as “No to war in Europe” and “No to war in Ukraine.” The man asked Turkish citizens to videotape him and give him a phone so he could broadcast himself on social media. He also called on the Turks to help the war.

After about 3 hours of efforts made to persuade him, he was pulled up over the guardrails behind him and taken to a police station.
