UN Chief Urges Unity and Action for a Better 2025

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, in his New Year’s message, called for global unity and urgent action to combat challenges like climate collapse and inequality. Reflecting on 2024, he described it as a year marked by wars, suffering, and record-breaking heat, warning that the last decade was the hottest on record. “We must drastically reduce emissions and transition to renewables by 2025 to avoid further destruction,” Guterres emphasized.

Highlighting sources of hope, including activists, humanitarian workers, and global initiatives like the Future Pact, Guterres pledged to support efforts for a more peaceful and equitable future. He concluded, “Together, we can make 2025 a new beginning, not as a divided world, but as a united nation.”
