Un Secretary Guterres Calls for Permanent Ceasefire in Palestine

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres reiterated during his opening speech for the 2025 session of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People that a permanent ceasefire, acceleration of humanitarian aid delivery and implementation of a two-state solution were necessary in the region where Palestinians’ inalienable rights are still being violated.

The UN Secretary-General also emphasized the importance of adhering to international law and said, “It is necessary to avoid any ethnic cleansing,” to avoid steps that would increase tension in the region.

The Portuguese official concluded his speech by saying that international support should be increased for lasting solutions that will secure the rights of the Palestinian people and commended the committee for their commitment to peace, stability and the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
