The UN Security Council approved a draft resolution supporting the three-stage Gaza ceasefire plan proposed by US President Joe Biden. The resolution, which urges Hamas to accept the plan, was adopted with 14 votes in favor and one abstention from Russia.
US Ambassador to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, emphasized the need for a permanent end to the conflict, while Russia’s representative, Vassily Nebenzia, cited unclear details and conflicting information as reasons for Russia’s abstention, noting Israel’s mixed signals regarding the ceasefire.
