UN Security Council Delegation Makes First-Ever Visit to Syria

A delegation representing all 15 members of the UN Security Council visited Syria for the first time, arriving on the one-year anniversary of the Assad regime’s overthrow. Entering through the Lebanon–Syria border, the delegation toured damaged areas in Damascus, including the Jabor neighborhood, and visited historic sites such as the Umayyad Mosque.

The group later met President Ahmed al-Shara at the People’s Palace, underscoring international support for Syria’s reconstruction and stability. UNSC field visits are extremely rare and require unanimous approval among all 15 members.
