Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Tufan Erhürman met with a top UN envoy in Nicosia to prepare for a critical visit from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. Highlighting the UN leader’s long-standing commitment to the region, envoy Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar stated that Guterres aims to “support the ongoing efforts and to contribute to progress in the event of a possible resumption of the negotiation process.” This diplomatic push will culminate tomorrow in a highly anticipated trilateral summit. Following individual morning meetings, Guterres will host a joint dinner in the UN buffer zone with Erhürman and Greek Cypriot Leader Nikos Christodoulides to discuss the divided island’s future.
