US Citizen Sentenced to 12.5 Years in Russia for Drug Trafficking

The Ostankino District Court in Moscow has sentenced Robert Romanov Woodland, a 32-year-old dual citizen of Russia and the United States, to 12 years and 6 months in a high-security prison for attempted large-scale drug trafficking. Woodland was detained by Russian police on January 5 and has been tried for drug production, concealment, sale, and possession. Woodland, who teaches English in Russia, was adopted by an American family from a child welfare institution in Perm in 1993 and later returned to Russia.
