US Cruise Evacuee Tests Positive for Hantavirus

A US citizen evacuated from the hantavirus-stricken MV Hondius cruise ship has tested positive upon returning home. The luxury vessel is currently docked in Spain’s Canary Islands, where ongoing evacuations follow three virus-related deaths among its 140 passengers and crew. US health officials confirmed the infected individual and a second American exhibiting mild symptoms were flown back in specialized bioisolation units as a strict precaution. All 17 evacuated Americans, along with a US-based British national, are now undergoing extensive clinical evaluations at a medical facility in Nebraska. Meanwhile, seven additional US passengers who previously returned are being kept under strict medical surveillance in their respective states.
