US Cuts Flights by 10% Amid Ongoing Government Shutdown

US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced that flights at 40 major airports will be reduced by 10 percent starting tomorrow due to the ongoing government shutdown. The measure, aimed at managing staff shortages, could be reversed if Congress reaches a deal to reopen the government.

The shutdown, now in its second month, has left about 13,000 air traffic controllers and 50,000 security staff working without pay, delaying tens of thousands of flights and affecting over 3.2 million passengers.

The shutdown began after Democrats and Republicans failed to agree on a temporary budget before the fiscal deadline on October 1, causing the federal government to lose spending authority.
