US President Donald Trump’s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff said trilateral talks between the United States, Russia and Ukraine in Geneva, Switzerland, made “meaningful progress.” He said both sides agreed to keep their leaders informed and continue working toward a deal.
The first day of negotiations lasted six hours and was described as tense by a Russian source. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said surrendering Donbas to Russia would not be accepted by Ukrainians and that any peace terms should be put to a referendum.
