US Imposes Major Sanctions on Iran-Linked Shipping Network

The US Treasury has sanctioned over 115 individuals, entities, and vessels tied to Iran, mainly targeting the oil smuggling network led by Mohammad Hossein Shamkhani, son of a senior adviser to Ayatollah Khamenei. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called it the most significant move since 2018, accusing the network of financing Iran’s global activities with billions in oil revenue. The sanctions aim to weaken Iran’s influence without disrupting the global oil market.
