US Man Shoots 2 Activists to Death in Panama

A 77-year-old lawyer named Kenneth Darlington carried out an armed attack on a protest against a mining agreement. Getting angry at the protestors blocking the Pan-American Highway in the city of Chame, Darlington got out of his vehicle, took the tires, and threw them aside. After getting involved in a dispute with the protestors, Darlington took the gun out of his pocket and shot and killed two activists, namely Abdiel Diaz and Ivan Rodriguez. Darlington was detained at the scene after the incident.

The protests, which are against the agreement made by the Panamanian government with the Canada-based First Quantum Minerals company to operate the copper mine for at least another 20 years, have been continuing since October 20.
