US police handcuffing black teen sparks outrage

Two black and white teens started fighting after a verbal argument at a mall in New Jersey. After the fight intensified, 2 policemen from Bridgewater town intervened in the fight. It was seen that one of the police officers tried to calm the white boy on the couch, while the other policeman forced the black boy down and handcuffed him. The video sparked outrage on social media.

Ebone, the black teen’s mother, said, “I hate to say it but if not for his race, why else? Why are they messing with my son and not the other boy? Why is the other boy sitting and looking at my son? My son is handcuffed. It doesn’t make sense and it pisses me off,” she said.

Kye, who was subjected to racist intervention, said that the fight started when the white teenager intervened while he was bullying another friend. “No possible scenario makes sense to me. I want police badges taken. I felt like they were treating him like he was superior to me,” Kye said.

The Somerset County Attorney’s Office has confirmed that an investigation is underway into both the fight and the police abuse. Bridgewater Mayor Matthew Moench said: “The prosecutor’s review will be impartial, objective and thorough.”
