South Korea and the US have agreed to prepare a trade agreement package by July 8 following high-level talks in Washington.
South Korean Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok and Trade Minister Ahn Duk-geun met with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer to seek exemption from President Trump’s proposed 25% tariffs.
Choi said the “July package” will cover tariffs, investment, economic security, and foreign exchange, aiming to avoid negative impacts on bilateral trade. Follow-up talks are set for May 15–16 in Seoul.
