US Vice President James David Vance stated that economic sanctions and military pressure could be used against Russia if it refuses a peace deal with Ukraine. Speaking to the Wall Street Journal ahead of his meeting with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy, Vance said all options, including military intervention, remain on the table.
During the Munich Security Conference, Vance also met with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, emphasizing that Europe should take greater responsibility for its own defense. Rutte agreed, stating that NATO members must increase defense spending. Vance added that peace negotiations should guarantee Ukraine’s sovereignty while details on territorial control and security guarantees remain open for discussion.
