village of Novotoshkivka in Ukraine’s Luhansk region in ruins

The village of Novotoshkivka, about 26 kilometers southeast of the city of Severodonetsk in Ukraine’s pro-Russian separatist Luhansk region, was in ruins after intense fighting last week. All the houses in the village, which bear the heavy scars of the war, became unusable. Luhansk Governor Serhiy Hayday stated that the Ukrainian forces in the village had withdrawn, and emphasized that the Russians destroyed the village with air strikes. Stating that the Russian forces continued to destroy everything, Hayday said, “Unfortunately, there are almost no houses left in Novotoshkivka. Our troops retreated, but not much, because there was nowhere to protect the defense.”
