Kosovars came together for a protest called “The Last Tunnel” to draw attention to violence against women in Kosovo. Women killed due to domestic violence in Kosovo over the last five years were commemorated in the event organized by the Center for Counseling, Social Services, and Research (SIT). While the stories of the murdered women were featured on posters hung in the tunnel, the people in the area witnessed the violence that women had endured over the years.
SIT program manager Liridona Berisha-Shabani recalled that the event was held for the first time in 2019, and stated that four women were killed in Kosovo in 2020 and three others in 2021. She went on to say that the event’s goal is to raise citizen awareness, to encourage institutions to take concrete steps in this regard, and to fight against violence.
