Violent Protests Erupt in Senegal after, killing 9

In Senegal, clashes erupted after opposition leader Ousmane Sonko received a 2-year prison sentence. Nine people lost their lives in the demonstrations in Dakar and Ziguinchor. Social media platforms were blocked, and the government emphasized the need to ensure safety and strengthen security. Sonko was convicted of immoral behavior but acquitted of rape charges. His party called for protests, alleging a political motive behind the sentence to hinder his potential candidacy in the 2024 election.
