Volcano Erupts in Indonesia

On Saturday, an explosion occurred on the active Dukono Volcano in the north of Indonesia’s Halmahera Island while climbers were climbing to its summit. The crater spewed ash and smoke 2.4 kilometers high, and the climbers began heading to the ground in panic, luckily escaping without injury.

“Dukono’s volcanic activity was so high that pieces were scattered from the crater. Before climbing to the summit, we should observe the wind direction, how strong the eruption was and other factors. Do not attempt to climb to the summit if the conditions are not suitable,” said Anak Esa, who recorded the footage of the incident.

Dukono Volcano has been spewing ash and smoke since 1993.
