Wandering Bear Captured After 4-Day Hunt in Japan

Authorities in the Japanese city of Utsunomiya have successfully captured a wild bear that roamed the streets for four days and forced the closure of 94 local schools. Following frantic sightings at a shopping mall, a university, and a wholesale market, a joint operation involving police, hunters, and helicopters finally cornered the animal near a residential home. Relieved locals watched the capture safely from behind closed windows, shocked by the city’s first-ever wild animal encounter. While this operation was a success, another bear that recently injured four people in Fukushima remains at large. These encounters highlight a growing safety issue across Japan, where bear attacks left 13 people injured last year alone.
