War-Torn Maarat al-Numan Struggles to Recover

Aerial footage reveals extensive destruction in the Maarat al-Numan district of Idlib, Syria, caused by the Assad regime’s tanks and warplanes during the 13-year civil war. Even mosques were bombed, and regime soldiers reportedly removed and sold iron bars from damaged buildings.

Local resident Ibrahim Al Mahmud described the devastation, stating, “Assad has been cruel. Soldiers looted iron bars and windows after the bombings. People want to return, but rebuilding seems uncertain. Thank God, Assad is gone now, and we are happy.” The district, a former hub of protests and clashes, faces a long road to recovery.
