Water levels decrease in Türkiye’s dams and ponds, sunken settlement comes to light

Dams and ponds in the Esenli village, located in Türkiye’s Yozgat city, are facing the risk of drought due to temperatures above seasonal normals and delayed seasonal precipitation. Data showed that the average annual precipitation in the city, which was 626 kilograms in 2021 decreased to 529 kilograms in the previous year.

The ruins of Esenli Village, which were submerged under the dam’s waters, came to light as the water level decreased.

Ahmet Gökoğlu, a local from Esenli, stated that they have been experiencing the driest season in 20 years and said, “This year the season was very dry. Our crops have not grown, and our dam has remained empty. It is the driest season in the last 20 years.”
