Wild geese have returned to Lake Erçek in Türkiye’s Lake Van basin, creating a stunning visual spectacle. This region, home to 250 bird species, has seen its wildlife thrive due to improved habitat protection and its designation as a “sensitive area under absolute protection.”
Van Yüzüncü Yıl University’s Wildlife Protection Center Director, Prof. Dr. Lokman Aslan, highlighted the significance of preserving these habitats. “This year, geese have joined flamingos and other waterfowl at Lake Erçek. Protecting these wetlands ensures future generations can experience nature’s diversity,” he said. The area’s flourishing ecosystem now attracts a growing variety of bird species.
